I Found Myself Again: A Wellness Retreat Testimonial

One mother’s heartfelt journey from burnout to balance at The Wellness Mommas Retreat—an inspiring story of healing, self-discovery and the power of taking time just for you.

The Journey to Self-Discovery

A wellness retreat- The best decision I ever made!

I remember the moment I booked my ticket for the Wellness Mommas Retreat. My heart was racing, my fingers hovered over the keyboard and my mind was flooded with questions. Who will be there? Will I fit in? What if I can’t do all the activities? Will I feel alone? But perhaps the biggest question of all was: Why am I even doing this?

As a mother, I had been running on autopilot for years. My days blurred into a cycle of cooking, school drop-offs, errands, work deadlines and endless to-do lists. I never truly stopped to breathe. I assumed that this was simply part of being a mum and a wife—busy chaotic and stressful. It had become my everyday norm.

Then I came across The Wellness Mommas Retreat. At first, I thought, This sounds too good to be true! Even if I wanted to go, I didn’t know anyone. What would the other women be like? What if I didn’t get along with them? What if I felt out of place? What if no one liked me? But deep down something told me I needed this. I needed time to reflect. I needed time for me.

For so long, I had been a wife, a mother, a daughter and a friend to everyone else. But who was I for myself? So I took a leap of faith and signed up. And I am so glad I did.

Arriving at the retreat my nerves kicked in. I had never travelled alone before. I kept second-guessing myself. Had I done the right thing? Should I have stayed at home? Was this really what I needed? But my worries melted away the moment I walked in. I was greeted with warm smiles and tight hugs from the wellness mommas. They made me feel instantly welcomed like I was meant to be there.

As I settled into my room a simple cosy sanctuary surrounded by nature. The fresh air the stillness—it immediately relaxed me. The stress of my everyday life began to fade with each deep breath. I had finally given myself permission to slow down.

The next morning I joined the other women for yoga therapy. Before we even began there was an introductory session and I quickly realised we all felt the same way. Every single one of us had the same doubts and fears. Many of us had never travelled alone or attended a retreat before. Some were worried they wouldn’t fit in; others feared they wouldn’t be able to keep up with the activities. But this retreat was designed with us in mind!

The daily schedule was balanced with options to participate in: yoga therapy, meditation chanting, spirituality work, health talks, mindfulness sessions, art therapy and one-on-one coaching. There was also plenty of time to rest reflect and just be.

As the days passed we opened up to each other—sharing our struggles, our hopes and our dreams. The initial awkwardness disappeared and deep friendships formed. We weren’t just there to escape. We were there to heal.

Each day I challenged myself to try something new. Morning yoga became my time to reconnect with my body reminding me that I am stronger than I thought. Meditation taught me how to quiet my mind. I could feel the tension leave my shoulders with every mindful breath. Journaling and art therapy helped me uncover emotions I had buried for years. Listening to health talks gave me a new appreciation for my body and how it carries me through life.

The retreat wasn’t about pushing myself to do everything but more about finding what worked for me. Sitting alone in the garden at sunrise became a sacred moment of peace.

One of the most surprising discoveries was how much I valued the quiet moments. For so long I had been caught in the endless cycle of busyness—constantly striving, constantly giving and constantly feeling like I was never enough. But here I was reminded of something simple yet powerful: rest is not a luxury—it is a necessity.

This retreat was not just about yoga or meditation. It was about letting go of the impossible expectations I had placed on myself. It was about learning that I don’t have to do it all. That I don’t have to be perfect. That taking care of myself is not selfish—it is essential.

I had come to this retreat to escape—but what I found was a deeper connection with myself. I left with lifelong friendships and a sense of sisterhood I never expected. I learnt that it is okay to say no. I learnt that it is okay to put myself first. I learnt that I am a better mother, a better partner and a better version of myself when I am balanced and at peace.

If you are reading this and wondering if a wellness retreat is for you—this is your sign. Whether you are a mother feeling drained or someone who simply craves time for self-care the Wellness Mommas Retreat is a space for reflection, healing and rejuvenation. It is a break from the noise and chaos of everyday life. A chance to breathe. A chance to reconnect with yourself.

Because you don’t just go home with memories. You go home with clarity, peace and a renewed sense of self-worth. And I believe that is something each and every one of us deserves.

If you are a busy person or someone curious about taking time for yourself don’t wait for the “right time.” The right time is now. Give yourself this gift. You deserve it.
