Mum and Mum-in-Law: Serena’s Pillars of Love and Strength

Mother’s Day for me is all about showing appreciation for both my mum and mother-in-law, although we don’t always get to celebrate due to work commitments. When we can, we love hosting an afternoon tea at home, cooking their favourite dishes, and spoiling them as much as we can—it’s a chance to show them how much they mean to us.
One lesson my mum has always instilled in me is to never do anything half-heartedly; whether it’s a small task or hosting, she always goes the extra mile to make sure everything is done well. If I had to describe my mum in three words, it would be selfless, kind, and strong. A moment that made me feel truly part of the family with my mother-in-law was when she had keys specially cut for me just before I got married—it was such a thoughtful gesture.
For anyone looking to strengthen their relationship with their mother-in-law, I would say it’s important to take the time to understand her as an individual, not just through your partner’s lens. Every mother-in-law just wants to feel valued and respected.
